作ることは祈ること

マスクを作りたいと思った。

コロナウイルスが市中感染する中で、友人や遠くに住むお世話になった人達のことを考えて健康を祈りたくなった。

作ることって、祈ることに似ていると思う。

私はミシンで淡々とマスクを縫う。

彼らと共に過ごした時間の一瞬をとらえた写真を布に落とし込んで、彼らの健康を祈りながら。

元気だろうか、次に会ったらなんの話をしよう。元気でいてくれたらいいな。

その人達との思い出にふけりながら、彼らの健康を祈願すること、未来を考えることを祈る行為としてマスクを縫う。

見ないようにして開催したり参加するのでなく、参加を否定するのでもなく、好転を祈る機会にしようと思う。

Masks are important for protecting us, especially these days. They also encourage me as a type of charm reminding me of my family and friends. So I decided to make masks to pray for the health of not only my friends in Japan, but also my beloved friends living all over the world and who may struggle with COVID-19.

For me, the process of making something is similar to praying. I make masks with clothes with pictures printed on them to capture other people’s unforgettable moments with their loved ones.

I pray to stay healthy and one’s bright future while sewing the clothes and in turn, that makes me think of my friends and look forward to seeing someone I care a lot about.

Bring your favorite picture to me and I will print it on cloth to make your mask.
This will be an opportunity to be share your memory and experience of missing someone, who is important to your life. I look forward to being shared your story with me.

「私は3年前に大学の友人たちと開催した『冷蔵庫の中にあるものでなにができるか』展のメインビジュアルであり、我が家のリアル冷蔵庫の写真。"私"という"冷蔵庫"の中に保存された、生まれてこの方お世話になった全ての人の無事を祈って。。

もう一枚は、隅田川の写真。私は昨年、隅田川全長約23.5kmを5回ほど歩いているのですが、隅田川周辺の街の景色は上から下まで全然違くて、様々な人がここに暮らしているんだと実感させられました。

今春開催予定だった、私が関わっている音楽とアートのプロジェクト『隅田川怒涛』も延期の決断をしました。

隅田川周辺に暮らすひとりひとりの健康と、いつか笑顔で怒涛に遊びに来てもらえる日を願っています。」

"This is the main visual of the exhibition called 'What can I do with the things in the refrigerator?'   that I held with my university friends three years ago, and a picture of my real refrigerator.

"Refrigerator" storages my existence, and I praying for the safety of all who have taken care of me since I was born.

The other is a picture of the Sumida River. Last year, I walked about 23.5 km along the Sumida River in Tokyo about five times, and the view of the town around the Sumida River was completely different from top to bottom, making me realize that many people live here.

The music and art project 'Sumida-gawa Dotou(Sumida River turmoil), ' that I was involved in was scheduled to be held this spring, but it was postponed because of the Corona virus.

I hope that everyone living around the Sumida River will be healthy and that they will come to visit us with a smile someday."
